It’s Family Time ~The Daniel Earnhart Family

Daniel Earnhart son of George Earnhart and Margaret Keppel was born 13 Feb. 1809 in Rowan County, North Carolina. Sometime in the early 1830’s Daniel Earnhart married Martha [LNU] and by September 1835 was in Bedford County, Tennessee where he purchased 128 acres of Land (DB FF:49) from his father, George Earnhart.  

Daniel and Martha would have seven children before her passing in the 1870’s after the 1870 Census was executed and before the 1880 Census were enumerated. The death certificate for one of those children, Mary C. Earnhart shows her mother to be “Lucy LENTZ”. The first name Lucy does not match Martha as shown in the Census but it may be a clue to her real surname.  

After the death of Martha in the 1870’s, Daniel then married a much younger lady called Ann; last name also unknown. No Tennessee marriage license has been found for either of these two marriages. In the 1880 Censuses for Bedford County Daniel is age 79 and Ann is age 27.   

Daniel Earnhart passed away between 2 March 1883, when he wrote his Will and 2 April 1883 when it was probated. After his death Ann, his widow, married William  Kimmons on 15 March 1885. William Kimmons passed away on 25 December 1914 and his widow Ann died 14 January 1925. The informant, Mrs. Fannie Crowell, for her Tennessee death certificate did know the names of her parents.

Daniel and Martha [LNU] Earnhart children were:

i. Malinda J. Earnhart was born about 1833.

ii. Harriett Earnhart, born abt 1835; married John W. Paschal; died bef 16 Jan 1864, Bedford County, Tennessee.

iii. Mary C. Earnhart, born 22 Nov 1837, Bedford County, Tennessee; married Charles Crowell, 15 Aug 1861, Bedford, Tennessee; died 9 Aug 1923, Unionville, Bedford, Tennessee.

iv. William Earnhart was born about 1838 in Bedford County, Tennessee.

v. John Henry Earnhart, born 6 Oct 1841, Tennessee; married Evaline Wise; died 25 Aug 1896, Christian County, Missouri.

vi. James A. Earnhart, born 1 Apr 1843, Bedford County, Tennessee; married Sarah E. Clardy; died 26 Jul 1925, Bedford County, Tennessee.

vii. George Earnhart, born 1845, Bedford County, Tennessee; married Martha Ellen Head, 5 Feb 1877; died 1904, Bedford County, Tennessee.

Daniel Earnhart is my 1st Cousin 5X Removed.
