The Heirs at Law of John Gandy, Sr.

John Gandy was borne abt 1780, a son of Brittain Gandy and Mary Ross. He was twice married; his first wife was Elizabeth Holland and this 2nd wife was Silvania Chloe Mullins. All his children are from his first wife and they number about twelve. Shortly after their marriage, John and Elizabeth migrated south and westward. By 1811 they were in Georgia and by 1819 they were in Dallas County, Alabama. 

On 27 June 1842, Elizabeth (Holland) Gandy passed away in Greene County, Alabama. She was buried in Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Eutaw, Greene County,  Alabama.

John Gandy remarried between 1842 and 1850. On 29 October 1851 John Gandy, Sr. passed away in Bibb County, Alabama. his probate file contain the following document which named all his children with one exception. No Mention is made of James R or James Ross Gandy, b. abt 1822, married Catherine Perry and said to have died in the Civil War.

Bibb County} Personally appeared before me Jno. W. Suttle Judge of Probate for said County Wiley R. Gandy and made oath that the annexed Acpt [Account] is just as stated as to receipts and disbarments and that he has accounted in said acpt for all the Interest that accrued on monies used by him and further states that the following is a true list of all the heirs entitled to distribution of said Estate viz; Thomas H. John Gandy, Sr. and Elizabeth Holland had the following children:

i. Wiley Robert Gandy was born in 1803. He died on 6 Jun 1872 at the age of 69. He had his estate probated.

ii. Thomas Holland Gandy Sr., born 1807; married Permelia Pearson, 3 Mar 1844, Perry, Alabama; died 27 Aug 1868.

iii. Daniel Ross Gandy, born 22 Mar 1811, Georgia; married Nancy Evans, 9 Oct 1830; married  Louisa Jane Sibley, 1 Dec 1853; married Angeline Jane Duggan, 29 Sep 1862, Sabine Parish, Louisiana; died 12 May 1867, Sabine Parish, Louisiana.

iv. Harvey M Gandy, born 1815; died 1847.

v. Henry H. Gandy, born abt 1817; married Evalyne E. Lenore, 19 Aug 1852, Bibb County, Alabama.

vi. Hardy Ross Gandy, born 20 Jan 1819, Plantersville, Dallas, Alabama Territory; married Martha Malinda Hicks, 30 Sep 1841; died 20 Jul 1866, Plantersville, Dallas, Alabama.

vii. Elizabeth Gandy, born 1821, Bibb County, Alabama; married James A. Jones; died 1857.

viii. James Ross Gandy, born abt 1822; married Catherine Perry; died 19 Dec. 1863 in Helena, Arkansas (Co. B. 15th Illinois. Cavalry Soldier). 

ix. Mary Ross Gandy, born 1822; married William McGee.

x. Martha H. Gandy, born 1824, Greene County, Alabama; married William S. Mitchell, 11 Dec 1848, Bibb County, Alabama; died 14 Jul 1899.

xi. Cloah Gandy, born 17 Feb 1825; married Leroy Flanagan, 27 Dec 1847, Bibb County, Alabama; died 10 Aug 1904.

xii. Sylvania C, "Silva" Gandy, born abt 1828; married Peter Pearson, 11 Nov 1851, Bibb County, Alabama.

John and his 2nd wife Chloe had no children.

John Gandy, Sr. is my 1st Cousin 5X Removed.

3. Note: John was a son of Brittain Gandy. Someone has added Brittian as a Middle name. I have not found any document whereby he was called anything but John Gandy Sr.
