It’s Family Time~The Alsey Brock Family

Alsey Brock was born 10 September 1815, a son of Benjamin Brock and his wife Temperance. The surname of his Mother Temperance is unknown. There are many online trees that says her surname was GAY; but, this is just pure speculation. 

Alsey was Benjamin and Temperance’ first born child. At the age of 20, or about 1835, Alsey Brock married Lucy Morris, age 13. Lucy’s parents are unproven but believed to be Wiley Morris and Charity Short.

Alsey and Lucy had two children. Alsey was a farmer and Lucy was a stay at home mom. Their children were two sons: 

1. Charles A. Brock, born 26 November 1836.      
2. Pleasant A. Brock, born 10 March 1839.

The Alsey Brock family seems to be doing well until about 1855. I believe that sometime before 1855, Alsey became sick and was unable to satisfactory care for his family. In 1855, there was a bill introduce to foreclose on a mortgage & Lucy Brock, wife of Alsey Brock, relinquishes her claim of dower. Another indication that Alsey lost the lawsuit.

Then on 13 March 1858, Alsey Brock passed away at the age of 42 leaving his widow Lucy, age 36 and two sons, Charles, age 22 and Pleasant, age 19.

Shortly after the loss of their dad, the South became embroiled in the War Between the States, the Civil War. Both Charles and Pleasant served during the duration of the war leaving their Mother back home to be care for by relatives. Thankfully, both Charles and Pleasant survived the war and returned home. Their Mother also survived the war. 

Charles A. Brock married Sarah Jane, aka “Sallie" [Maiden name unknown] sometime before August 1866.

            I William L. T. Prince Notary and ex off Magistrate do hereby certify unto all whom it may concern that Sarah J. Brock the wife of the within named Charles A. Brock did this day appear before me and upon being privately and separately examined by me did declare that she does freely voluntarily and without any compulsion dread or fear of any person or persons whomsoever renounce release and forever relinquish unto the within named Lewis D. Mowry and William S. Mowry  survivors of S & L. Mowry & Co. and the survivors of them their heirs and assigns all her interest and estate and also all her right and claim of dower of in and to all and singular the premises within mentioned and released.

Pleasant A. Brock married Martha Eugenia Horne on 10 February 1869.

In the 1870 Census, Lucy can be found in the household of her son Charles and daughter-in-law Sarah Jane.

Alsey and Lucy Brock are my 2^nd Great Grand Uncle and Aunt.

Charles and Pleasant Brock are my 1st Cousins 3X Removed.
