Two Mark Honeycutt’s, One Land Deed, No Clues

Back in October 2015, I wrote a blog post about my paternal 3rd Great grandparents, Marcus and Charity (Dry) Huneycutt. In that post I made the following comments:

“What is NOT KNOWN is when, where and how both Mark and Charity passed away. I know it was before 1880. Marcus is not listed in the 1870 Census but Charity is; neither is listed in 1880 Census.”

Very little progress has been made with this family since that time. I did learn that there is a 2nd Marcus Honeycutt's in Stanly County at the same time.  “Mark” Jackson Huneycutt, born 7 August 1825, a son of Ambrose M. Huneycutt and Elizabeth Morgan and my 3rd Great Grandfather, Marcus I. Huneycutt and his wife, Charity Dry.    

During this on-going time I did find one additional land deed between John F. Furr to M.  Honeycut.

This Deed made this 1st day of December 1881 by John F. Furr of Cabarrus County and State of North Carolina. Of the first part, to Mark Honeycut of Cabarrus County, and State aforesaid of the second part, Witnesseth; that the said John F. Furr in consideration of One Hundred and Forty Five Dollars, to him paid by said Honeycut, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, hath bargained and sold, and by these presents doth bargain, sell and convey to said Mark Honeycut and his heirs, all the right, title,interest and estate of the party of the first part in and to a tract of land in Cabarrus & Stanly Counties State of North Carolina adjoining the lands of Nathan Lambert, John M. Shue, John Starns and others, bounded as follows, viz:
          Beginning at a W. O. Shue’s Corner then S 48 ½ E 34 poles to a pine then S 57 E 111 ¾ ((then N 60 E 12 poles to a Hickory then W 18 E 29 poles & 6 links to a stake in Blackwelder’s line) inserted))
Poles to a Stake in the Branch Then N 67° W 19 poles 13 links to a Stone Blackwelders’s corner then N 28 E 52 poles 6 links to a Stone in the Cabarrus County line Widenhouse Corner thence N 86 W 65 poles to a B. O. (dead) then N 40 W 52 poles to a P.O. in John M. Shue’s line then S 10 W 44 ½ poles to a P. O. said Shue’s corner then S 80 W 40 poles to the beginning containing 50 Acres be the same more or less.
To Have and to Hold the aforesaid tract of land and all privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging, to the said Mark Honeycutt his heirs and assigns,to their only use and behoof forever.
And the said John F. Furr covenant that he is seized of said premises in fee and hath right to convey the same in fee-simple; that the same are free and clear from all encumbrances and that he will warrant and defend the said title to the same against the claims of all persons whatsoever.

The foregoing certificate of F. A. Klutz, a Justice of the Peace of Cabarrus County, is adjudged to be in due form and according to law. Therefore,let the same, with this certificate, be registered.

In don't think this Land Deed has any connection to my Mark Huneycutt. I think both Marcus and Charity were deceased before 1880.

There is an 1816 Petition for Montgomery County in which a Mark Honeycutt and Mark Honeycutt, Jr. signed the petition for the Court House site. Only one Mark Honeycutt had been identified. 

The 1870 and 1880 Census are the last provable connection that I can find for Marcus and Charity. His estate continued in Probate up till 1902.
