The Last Will of Sarah Haughey
Sarah Haughey was the Mother-in Law of my 5th great grand uncle Evan David. Jr. Evan David, Jr. married Mary Haughey, b. 1726, daughter of William and Sarah Haughey about 1740. Sarah Haughey’s husband William, had already passed away when she wrote her Will on 4 May 1787 in Pencader Hundred, in the County of New Castle and State of Delaware.
Her estate was equally divided between her son, William and her three daughters, Eleanor Calvert Pricillah Cowin & Ann Haughey.
She also left legacies to her Son-in-law, Evan David, Jr., husand of her daughter Mary, his wife and 3 of their 6 known children. She also left lagacies to her other Grandsons and Grandaughters.
Its obvious that Mary Haughey, wife of Evan David, Jr. was deceased since she was not mentioned within the Will. Mary Haughey, Evan David’s wife, died about 1780, her estate administered in 1780. (Adms., Lib. N1, fol. 356.) Evan was living in 1787 and died sometime before 1796-7. Davis Book page 31.
MEMO: that letters of administration on the estate of Mary Davis late of Pencader hundred and county of newcastle, deceased, were granted unto William Davis next of kin and proper administrator, an Inventory to be exhibited on or before the first day of April next, and under an account on or before the first day of october, A. D. 1794. Given under the Seal of the Register, this first day of October, A. D. 1793. (Bond in £150 Joseph Thomas Jun. Surety.)

In the name of God Amen. I Sarah Haughey of Pencader Hundred in the County of New Castle Delaware State being sick in body but thro' Divine mercy enjoying sound & disposing mind & memory do Constitute appoint and ordain this my last Will and Testament as follows Viz. Imp. I will that all my Just debts and funeral expenses be forth with paid out of my estate with all Convienent speed. To my Daughter in law Rosanah Haughey I give and bequeath two Shillings and Six pence to my Grandson Levi Haughey I gave and bequeth two Shillings and six pence to my Grandaughter Pricillah Haughey I give and bequeath two shillings and six pence to my Daughter Pricillah Cowin I give & bequeath one feather Bed & furniture to my Son William Haughey I give and bequeath the sum of two shillings and six pence & half a cart a handsaw & drawing knife the same Articles now in his pofsefsion To my Daughter Ann Haughey I give and bequeath her Choise <sic> of my fether Beds and furniture & one pided Cow one Iron pot on teakittle one Large pewter dish to my Daughter Elinor Colvert I give and bequeath two shillings and six pence to my Son in law Evin David I give and bequeath two Shillings and six pence to my Granson Nathaniel David I give and bequeath the sum of twenty Shillings to my Granson Joshua David I give and bequeath the sum of twenty Shillings to my Granson Hugh David I give and bequeath the sum of twenty Shillings. Drury Lewis Boatwright was born 1 April 1860, a son of Grorge R. Boatwright and Lauretta Hurst of Chesterfield County, South Carolina. He was the 5th borne of six children. He had a younger brother, Lewis, who died before he was born and 4 sisters, one of which was younger.
Drury, like his father, George, was a farmer in the CourtHouse Township, Chestterfeild County, South Carolina.

In late 1878 or early 1879, Drury Lewis Boatwright married Julia Ellen Teal, age 18, a daughter of Benjamin Franklin Teal and Eliza A. Davis.
Drury Lewis Boatwright and Julia Ellen Teal had the following children:
i. George R. Boatwright, born Sep 1879, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Garphelia F. Swinnie; died 21 Sep 1939, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
ii. Benjamin F. Boatwright was born on 22 May 1881 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina. He died on 23 Aug 1881 at the age of 0 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
iii. Fannie Mae Boatwright, born 12 Jun 1885, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Charlie Lester Davis, 27 Jul 1902, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; died 19 Oct 1970, Florence, Florence, South CarolinaUnited States.
Julie Ellen (Teal) Boatrwight died on 12 June 1931. She and George had been married 53 years.
Mrs. Julia Ella Boatwright, wife of Mr. D. L. Boatwright, died at her home near Chesterfield June 12th. She had been in bad health for about two and a half years, had been confined to her bed for over a year. She was well as could be expected until on Saturday before she was taken worse and died the next Friday. She was a faithful mother and grandmother and was always ready to welcome all who came in to see her, ready to meet them with a smile. She bore her pains well and did not worry about her troubles. She was 71 years old February 23. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, two children, Mr. George Boatwright and Mrs. Lester Davis, both of Chesterfield, and seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a large number of kindred. Funeral services were conducted at the home by Mr. Gobe Smith, her pastor. Her body was laid to rest in the Teal Cemetery near Zoar. [The Chesterfield Advertiser - July 2, 1931, Page 4 - Column 4]
Drury Lewis Boatwright died 9 February 1939.
Mr. D. L. Boatwright, a loved and respected citizen of Chesterfield, died at his home here late last Thursday night and was buried in the Teal cemetery Friday afternoon following funeral services in Zoar Methodist Church at 4 o'clock. The Rev. E. S. Dunbar, pastor, was assisted by the Rev. D. N. Busbee, a former pastor. Mr. Boatwright would have been 79 years of age next April. He is survived by two children, George Boatwright and Mrs. Lester Davis. His wife had preceded him in death many years ago. He had been a loyal member of Zoar church for a long time. He was upright in character, kind and generous and truly loved by a wide circle of friends who are grieved at his passing. [The Chesterfield Advertiser, 16 February 1939.]

The Organ Lutheran Church was established in Rowan County, NC in 1792.
“Two stone churches built by Germans remain. The oldest of these, Zion, also called Organ Church was begun in 1792 and completed in 1795... it is not only the oldest church structure in Rowan County but is also the oldest Lutheran church in North Carolina." (Hood.Sep 6, 2011)”
Bernard W. Cruise translated these records and compiled a listing, which was filmed by the LDS Church in 1962. I have no knowledge of how complete these records are and I would definitely like to see them recompiled.
While the copying and editing needs some tweaking the entire translated text had been a genealogical goldmine in my research.

Pages 1 –52 of the Record of the Organ Lutheran Church are an index of all the names within the records. On page 27 you will find the following surnames:
The first surname on the page KEPPLE is a surname that is in my paternal family lineage. Its also spelled Keppel, Kepley and others various spellings.
We also see by this index that Mary Salome Kepple is on page 33. So lets look at the entry for Mary Salome Kepple.
Be careful here, There a page 33 of the Index (Image#040 of 322) and page 33 of the Record (Image#098 of 322).

Catherine was born Sept. 30, 1788; baptised May 11, 1800, a daughter of Peter Kepple with Martin Duerr her sponsor.

Catherine Kepple was the 3rd born child of Peter Kepple, Jr. and his wife Maria Barbara Grappin. Peter Kepple, Jr was also a son of Peter Kepple, Sr. He migrated to Bedford County, Tennessee and used the spelling of CAPLEY as his surname.
Martin Duerr, (anglicized to Martin Dry) is my 6th Great Grandfather.
Mary Salome Kepple is my 1st Cousin 5X Removed. Her father Killian Kepple is my 4th Great Grand Uncle.
Catherine Kepple/Capley is my 1st Cousin 5X Removed. Her father Peter Capley, Jr. is my 4th Great Grand Uncle.

William A. Sellers, Sr. was borne 10 April 1842 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. His parents were Noah Sellers and Timmey Ellen Parsons. He was the 2nd born of eight children with 2 sisters and 5 brothers.
Sometime between 1846 and 1850 Noah and Timmey moved their families from Chesterfield, SC to Carroll County, Tennessee. They were in Carroll County in 1848 when their 5th borne child arrived.
William A. Sellers was 18 years old in 1860. Sometime between 1860 and 1880, William A. Sellers left home and migrated to Ellis County, Texas.
There on 19 September 1881 William A. Sellers married Eppie Irene Young, age 21.
Church records are essential documents in our Genealogical research prior to the early 1900's. While some states did documents births, death and marriage pre-1910; most states did not began this type of documentation until laws were passed around 1910 making it a requirement. You might find a “Death Notice” in the local newspapers but the modern day obituary as we are acquainted with today were very rare. If a death was documented it would most likely be within a church.
Today, I have chosen the Baptism Record of my 4th Great Grandfather, Johan Martin Derr [Anglicized to DRY] to share with my readers.
Johan Martin Derr was born 10 July 1759, a son on J. Charles Derr and Christina Muss. His baptism is documented in A History of the Goshenhoppen Reformed Charge, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (1727-1819).
His parents and family members were active in this church. The Baptismal Records, 1748-1761 of Goshenhoppen Reformed Charge, were compiled by the REV. GEORGE MICHAEL WEISS.
Baptism entry for Johan Martin Derr is in the left column about midway down page 294.
The baptism was recorded as a baptism facts in my genealogical database.

Sara Ann Elizabeth Dry was born 16 June 1841, a daughter of John George Dry and his wife Mary Sides of Cabarruss County, North Carolina. Sara Ann was the eight of nine children born to John George and Mary “Polly” (Sides) Drye. She had two sisters and 6 brothers.
William S. Redwine was born 20 May 1823 in North Carolina. This birth date is recorded on his tombstone in the Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina.
On 21 June 1854, William A. Redwine, age 31, married Eliza Emaline Epps, age 19. This was William S. Redwine 1st marriage.

Eliza Emaline (Epps) Redwine was enumerated in the 1880 Census but sided shortly after the Census was taken. In the 1900 Census, William S. Redwine has a new wife and says he married her 20 years ago in 1880. William’s new wife was none other than the Widow of Turner W. Ingram.
On 13 February 1868, Sara Ann Elizabeth Dry, age 26, married Turner W. Ingram, age 62 in Stanly County, North Carolina.
Tumer W. Ingram died before the 1880 Census was enumerated.
In 1880, Sara Ann Elizabeth (Dry) Turner married William S. Redwine.
Sara Ann Elizabeth (Dry) (Turner) Redwine died 10 July 1913 at the age of seventy-two.
Turner W. Ingram and Sara Ann Elizabeth Dry had the following children:
i. Frances Ingram was born in Oct 1869 in Stanly County, North Carolina.
ii. George E. Ingram was born in May 1872 in Stanly County, North Carolina.
Sara Ann Elizabeth (Ingram) Redwine is my 1st Cousin 4X Removed.

I, James C. Thomas of the District and State aforesaid do make and publish the following as my last will and testament (as follows) to wit.
First, It is my will and desire that my Executor hereinafter named shall pay all of my debts as soon after my death as he conveniently can.
Secondly. I give, devise and bequeath to Abraham G. Johnson, whom I have raised and Educated as my own son, and his heirs the tract of land on which I now reside, containing about three hundred and sixty five acres, and
the following named Negro slaves, to wit, Ishamel, Dolphin Sen., Dolphin, Jr., John, Peter, Joe, Cyrus, Nancy, Arny, Crusoe, Juda, Albert, Charlitte, Zilphia, Polly, Caty, Jim, Peggy, Mariah, Whitby, Emmy, Liddy, Leonora, Tracy, Ann, Yancy, Lydia, Sarah, Lawrence, Ellen, Betsy, Wesley, Adaline, Julia and Eliza and any increase which they or either of them may have after the date of this my will and all my stock of horses, cattle, hogs and so forth, and all my plantation utensils, household and kitchen furniture and all the rest and residue of my Estate of whatever it may consist, including any portions of the same that may be acquired after the date of this my will.
Thirdly, In the event that the said Abraham G. Johnson should depart this life before my death and should thereby be prevented from taking under this preceding clause of this my will I then give, devise and bequeath the whole of my Estate, both real and personal as it shall exist at the time of my death to Martha T. Johnson and Hanibol P. Johnson, the children of the said Abraham G. Johnson and their heirs and if either of these should die without leaving children living at the time of the death of such one, then with remainder of such one’s share over to the survivor of such death should occur Either before or after such death if such [???>Illegible] should leave children living at this time of her or his death then over to such children instead of the survivor.
Fourthly. I do hereby nominate and appoint the said Abraham G. Johnson, the sole Executor of this my last will and testament and I do hereby revoke all other wills heretofore made by me.

George R. Boatwright was born 14 February 1910, a son of John Davis Boatwright and Susannah “Annie” Davis. He was the 6th of eight children born to John Davis and Annie Boatwright.
George Boatwright’s life was tragically ended by a “so-called” friend on Christmas Eve 1929 when he stabbed in the left side of his neck and bled to death.
Obituary:
George BOATWRIGHT - Frank Teal is in the county jail charged with murder of his friend Geo. Boatright, Christmas Eve night near Westfield Creek church. It seems that Frank Teal, Geo. Boatright, Ben Brock and Robert Teal, brother to Frank were returning from a Christmas tree at Westfield Creek church about 8 o'clock Dec. 24th Teal and Boatright were walking together, the other boys a little distance away. At the coroner's inquest all the boys testified that there had been no quarreling or hard feelings when they heard Boatright say, "You ought not to make me bleed like that." When they reached the spot they found Boatright on the ground bleeding badly. Teal was arrested a short while later at the home of relatives in the neighborhood. Officers state that he was clearly under the influence of liquor when arrested. He is said to deny any knowledge of the affair and claims he and Boatright were the best of friends. The coroner's physician found that death had been produced by a knife thrust in the neck severing an artery from which death came very quickly.
