52 Cousins~The Drury Lewis Boatwright Family

Drury Lewis Boatwright was born 1 April 1860, a son of Grorge R. Boatwright and Lauretta Hurst of Chesterfield County, South Carolina. He was the 5th borne  of six children. He had a younger brother, Lewis, who died before he was born and 4 sisters, one of which was younger. 

Drury, like his father, George, was a farmer in the CourtHouse Township, Chestterfeild County, South Carolina.

In late 1878 or early 1879, Drury Lewis Boatwright married Julia Ellen Teal, age 18, a daughter of Benjamin Franklin Teal and Eliza A. Davis. 

Drury Lewis Boatwright and Julia Ellen Teal had the following children:

i. George R. Boatwright, born Sep 1879, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Garphelia F. Swinnie; died 21 Sep 1939, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.

ii. Benjamin F. Boatwright was born on 22 May 1881 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina. He died on 23 Aug 1881 at the age of 0 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.

iii. Fannie Mae Boatwright, born 12 Jun 1885, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Charlie Lester Davis, 27 Jul 1902, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; died 19 Oct 1970, Florence, Florence, South CarolinaUnited States.


Julie Ellen (Teal) Boatrwight died on 12 June 1931. She and George had been married 53 years.   


Mrs. Julia Ella Boatwright, wife of Mr. D. L. Boatwright, died at her home near Chesterfield June 12th. She had been in bad health for about two and a half years, had been confined to her bed for over a year. She was well as could be expected until on Saturday before she was taken worse and died the next Friday. She was a faithful mother and grandmother and was always ready to welcome all who came in to see her, ready to meet them with a smile. She bore her pains well and did not worry about her troubles. She was 71 years old February 23. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, two children, Mr. George Boatwright and Mrs. Lester Davis, both of Chesterfield, and seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a large number of kindred. Funeral services were conducted at the home by Mr. Gobe Smith, her pastor. Her body was laid to rest in the Teal Cemetery near Zoar. [The Chesterfield Advertiser - July 2, 1931, Page 4 - Column 4]


Drury Lewis Boatwright died 9 February 1939. 


 Mr. D. L. Boatwright, a loved and respected citizen of Chesterfield, died at his home here late last Thursday night and was buried in the Teal cemetery Friday afternoon following funeral services in Zoar Methodist Church at 4 o'clock.  The Rev. E. S. Dunbar, pastor, was assisted by the Rev. D. N. Busbee, a former pastor. Mr. Boatwright would have been 79 years of age next April. He is survived by two children, George Boatwright and Mrs. Lester Davis. His wife had preceded him in death many  years ago. He had been a loyal member of Zoar church for a long time. He was upright in character, kind and generous and truly loved by a wide circle of friends who are grieved at his passing. [The Chesterfield Advertiser, 16 February 1939.]
