Shadrach Johns is my 2nd Great Grandfather. I have written about him and his family in a past post. He served, at age 60, in the Civil war and was captured at the Battle of Marianna, in Florida. This land deed places my great great grandfather in Washington County, Florida in December 1866. Between this date and the 1880 Marlboro County, SC census, he lost his entire family except for one son and two grandchildren.

Charles, it's been so long that I've looked at this deed. William T. Goodwin was one of the youngest in a large family of James T. Goodwin living in Cheraw in 1840, 1850 and 1860 census. James T. Goodwin died in 1866 from wounds received in the war. Effy, William's wife, was a Boan, and one of the Goodwin daughters, Mariah, married an Eddin(g)s. Much of this is recorded in the minutes of St. David's Parrish. Like you, lack of information saddens me; I cannot find documentation from where these Goodwins came from before they arrived in Cheraw! Last year, while tracking the Eddin(g) family, I found a census entry where the Eddin(g)s family referred to David Goodwin as their uncle - verifying that David and James T. Goodwin were brothers. If you have any clues to where these famililies were originally from, I would appreciate any information.

I wish. You know how rare pre-civil war records are in Chesterfield County. If I do come across some info I will contact you.
