Clyde Ross Davis was born 28 May 1896, a son of John Washington Davis and Melissa Alice Pittman. He was the eight of fourteen children born into this family.
World War I (28 July 1914 -11 November 1918) broke out in Europe in 1914; but, the United States did not enter the War until 6 April 1917. We know that Clyde registered for the draft on 5 June 1917. His date of enlistment is not known but we know that he died in France on 3 November 1918.
World War I veterans are some of the hardest Veterans to research. Clyde’s death in France in November 1918 suggests that he joined the US Army and was a ground soldier. My notes also show that he was a member of:
Pioneer Infantry,
Company A
56th Div AEF (American Expeditionary Forces)
His tombstone at Zoar UMC Cemetery states that he was “Killed in France Nov. 3, 1918”
