Chesterfield County SC Estates~Estate Folder #208–Christopher Boan


This is a new series of posting, appearing every Sunday, on selected Estate Folders from the Estate files of Chesterfield County. No known estates exist for the period before the Civil War. They were destroyed with the burning of the Courthouse. There are a few “Equity Records” in the State Archives. Do not overlook this valuable resources if you are looking for ancestors in Chesterfield County, South Carolina.

On 25 May 1866 Charles David (C. D.) Boan submitted a request to Mr. Hugh Craig  of the Chesterfield County probate office for Letters of Administration on the estate of his Father Christopher Boan.

Mr. scratch through hue Craig a few lines to you if you
I ask you for leters <sic> of Administration if you
Will grant it father and mother is both ded [dead]
And the rest of the family is in scratch Carbondale,  Ill
 [Illinois] Williamson co C D Boan the son of Christopher Boan
To Mr. xxxx x xxxx Mr. heu craig

Christopher Boan’s actual death date is not known; but, from this request by C. D. Boan we know that Christopher Boan died before 25 May 1866. 

Christopher Boan died intestate; without a Will. 

Approximately three months after this request was made, John L. P. Boan brother of Christopher Boan submitted a request for Letters.

On 3 September 1866, Charles David Boan, son of Christopher Boan, was granted Letters of Administration of his father’s estate.  

No obit, Tombstone or any other document has been found that shows the date that Christopher died. Most researchers say his wife was Mary Therrell; this also still remains to be proven.
