Elijah enlisted on 26 December 1861 to serve in the Civil War with Company A, 4th SC Calvary. He was killed in action (KIA) on 28 May 1864 at the Battle of Haw's Shop, Virginia.1 2 3
Elijah left behind his wife, Harriett and a daughter Sarah E. Sellers, b. 24 February 1861. This was their only child. She died 8 October 1862. Harriett, never remarried and died at age 89 on 6 January 1823.4 5
They both are buried in the McNair Family Cemetery, Ruby, Chesterfield County, South Carolina.6 7
