It’s Family Time~John Lucian Deese Family
John Lucian Deese, son of John W. Deese and Harriett A. Sellers married my Grand Aunt Lela Aileen Purvis, daughter of William James Purvis and Mary Hulda Previtte. They were married in 1910, the exact day and month unknown. The 1900 Census for Anson County shows them married 0 years with no children.
John Lucian was a farmer and spent his entire life in Anson County, North Carolina. He died in January 1954. Aunt Lela lived another 29 years, as a widow, after the loss of John Lucian. She passed away on 20 May 1983 in Florence, South Carolina.
John Lucian Deese and Lela Aileen Purvis had the following children:
i. Essie Arie Deese, born 26 Mar 1911, Morven, Anson, North Carolina; married Johnny Robert Boswell, 27 Nov 1927, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; died 16 Feb 1997, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
ii. Ethel Grace Deese, born 20 Oct 1912, Morven, Anson, North Carolina; married Lawrence Parrish, 5 Aug 1933, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; died 7 Sep 1997, Wadesboro, Anson, North Carolina.
iii. Lessie Lucille Deese, born 10 Oct 1915, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Bennett Jerome Gathings, 18 Aug 1935, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; died 20 Mar 2006, Banner Elk, Avery, North Carolina.
iv. James Deese was born on 5 Mar 1920 in Morven, Anson, North Carolina.24 25 26 27 28 James died on 27 Aug 1944 at the age of 24 in France.29 30 31
James served and died during World War II.
Missing: Pvt. James Deese, son of Mr. & Mrs. Lucian Deese of Morven, N.C., was killed in action in France on 27 August 1944 the War Department notified his parents. His body was later returned to the States and he is buried in the Morven Cemetery, Morven, Anson County, North Carolina.
v. Clella Rosalyn Deese, born 19 Sep 1921, Anson County, North Carolina; died 10 Jan 1988, Morven, Anson, North Carolina.
vi. Rubie Lee Deese was born on 31 May 1923 in Morven, Anson, North Carolina. She died on 19 Jun 1924 at the age of 1 in Morven, Anson, North Carolina.
vii. Harold Murray Deese, born 22 Aug 1927, Anson County, North Carolina; married Ella Ruth Adams, 30 Jun 1951; married Lou Etta Moseley; died 26 Nov 2010, Wadesboro, Anson, North Carolina.
viii. Powell McGoogan Deese was born on 30 Aug 1934 in Morven, Anson, North Carolina.32 He died on 25 Dec 1986 at the age of 52 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina.
Three living children have been omitted from the above listing.
John Lucian Deese and Lela Aileen Purvis Deese are my Grand Uncle and Grand Aunt.
