It’s Family Time~The E. C. Rivers Family


Emerson C. “EC” Rivers, Estelle Kelley & Susie Vera Rivers Hinson


Emerson Coit Rivers was born on 9 March 1913, a son of Emerson Coyt Rivers and Lucy Ellen Brock. He was the seventh of eight children born to this couple.

Emerson Coit Rivers was twice married; he first married Ruby Myrtle Sims on 19 October 1933 in Chesterfield, South Carolina. To this union was born one son Harry Donald, who died as an infant.

Emerson Coit Rivers then married Estelle Kelley on 2 August 1939 in Norphlet, Union County, Arkansas. Estelle was the daughter of John Kelley and Laura Letcher.

Emerson Coit Rivers and Estelle Kelley had 4 children; 3 daughters and a son. 

Emerson Coit Rivers died 5 September 1994 in Henderson, Rusk County, Texas. His wife, Estelle Kelley Rivers died 19 Jan 2011.

In the photo above, shared by E.C. & Estelle’s daughter, is Vera Rivers Hinson, a sister of Emerson Coit Rivers.  Vera was born on 17 May 1909; married Robert C. Hinson on 27 July 1929 and died  5 February 1993 in Henderson, Rusk County, Texas. Robert and Vera share a tombstone in the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery, Hunts Mill, Chesterfield County, South Carolina. Her obituary states that she was buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Henderson, Rusk County, Texas.

Emerson Coit Rivers and his sister Susie Vera Rivers Hinson are my 3rd Cousins twice removed.
