Little Don the two and one half year old son of Mr. & Mrs. J. Colon Davis, died in Florence Sunday Morning
The child fell backward into a large bucket of boiling water brought into the house for cleaning.
Little Don the two and one half year old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Colon Davis, of East Chesterfield, died in the Florence Infirmary Sunday morning at 7:20 o'clock form burns received at home the preceding Friday. A large bucket of boiling water had been brought into the house for cleaning purposes and set on the floor of a room in which the child was playing. He was seen by his father to be stepping backward toward the bucket, but before Mr. Davis could reach him he had fallen backward into the water. Medical aid was quickly summoned and the unfortunate child was rushed to the hospital, where everything possible was done to alleviate his suffering and save his life. The attending physicians, however, offered little hope from the first, as more than one third of the skin of the little fellow's body had been destroyed. Funeral services were conducted Monday morning at the Chesterfield cemetery by the Rev. W. P. Way, assisted by the Revs. H. D. Shuler and J. A. Langley. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the community in their deep sorrow.
Donald Omar Davis was the 7th of eight children born to John Colon Davis and Willie Emma Burr. They had also lost a daughter, Mary Sue, who passed away in August 1915 as an infant.
Donald Omar Davis was a 4th Cousin Once removed.
