                 Know all men by these presents that we Sarah Ann Rivers Malachi Rivers Mary Jane Rivers Isaac Rivers Sarah B. Rivers Malachi J. Rivers Rosa Ann Purvis William C. Purvis Thomas F. Rivers Louisa Eddings and Thetis Watson all of the County and State aforesaid for and in consideration that Hulda Rivers, Drury L. Rivers, James M. Rivers, Henry Rivers and Charles Rivers have undertaken and by the acceptance of this deed do undertake to properly support and maintain the aforesaid Malachi Rivers and his wife Sarah Ann Rivers during the terms of their natural lives have granted bargained sold and Release and by these presents do grant bargain sell and Release unto the said Hulda Rivers Drury L. Rivers James M. Rivers Henry Rivers and Charles Rivers all that certain piece parcel or tract of land situate lying and being in the County and State aforesaid on waters of Indian Creek about two miles from Chesterfield Court House containing one hundred and fifty acres more or less and is more particularly described in the following deed and plats to wit: a deed for Obediah Gulledge to John B. Pitts bearing date the 16th day of February 1841.  A deed from John B. Pitts to John Evans bearing date the 22nd  day of November 1845. A Deed from John Evans to Frederick Rivers in trust bearing date 7th day of October 1854 and a plat attached to the deed from Obediah Gulledge to to <sic> a John B. Pitts the same being the tract of land whereon the aforesaid Malachi Rivers and Sarah Ann Rivers have resided for many years together with all and singular the rights members hereditaments and appurtenances to the said premises belonging or in anywise incident or appertaining. Nevertheless upon the following trusts that is to say in trust for the aforesaid Sarah Ann Rivers for and during the term of her natural life and after the death of the aforesaid Sarah Ann Rivers then in trust for the aforesaid Malachi Rivers if he should be the survivor for and during the term of his natural life and after his death to the aforesaid Hulda Rivers Drury L. Rivers James M. Rivers Henry Rivers and Charles Rivers freed and discharged from all trusts whatever: To Have and To Hold all and singular the premises before mentioned unto the said Hulda Rivers Drury L. Rivers James M. Rivers Henry Rivers and Charles Rivers and their Heirs and assigns for the uses and trusts hereinbefore mentioned forever. And we do hereby bind ourselves and each and every of our heirs Executors and Administrators to warrant and forever defend all and singular the Said premises unto the said Hulda Rivers Drury L. Rivers James M. Rivers Henry Rivers and Charles Rivers Their heirs and assigns against ourselves and each and every one of our heirs and against every person whomsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof. Witness our hands and seals this the first day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three and in the one hundred and seventh year of the Sovereignty and Independence of the United States of America.

             Personally appeared E. J. Kennedy who made oath that he saw the within named R. A. Purvis Thomas F. Rivers Sara Ann Rivers Malachi Rivers and Thetis Watson sign seal and as their Act and deed deliver the within written Deed and that he with R. A. White witnessed the execution thereof.

The Trust Deed between John Evans and Frederick Rivers, mentioned in the above deed, can be found in Deed Book 3, pages 109 and 110

Malachi Rivers, son of William Rivers and his wife Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Rivers was born 22 August 1812.
He married about 1837 Sarah Ann Boatwright daughter of Drury Boatwright and  Lavicy ‘Vicy” Thurman.
Malachi and Sarah Ann had a large family consisting of 16 Children; 7 daughters and 9 sons.

In the Land Deed above the parents and 8 of the oldest Children, in order, Sarah Ann Boatwright Rivers (Mother), Malachi Rivers (Father), Malachi J. Rivers, Isaac Rivers, Mary Jane Rivers, Sarah B. Rivers, Rosa Ann Rivers Purvis, Thomas F. Rivers, Louisa Rivers Eddings and Thetis Rivers Watson are contracting with the 5 youngest children for the care of Malachi Rivers and his wife Sarah Ann Boatwright Rivers.  
The five youngest children in order are Hulda Rivers Drury L. Rivers James M. Rivers Henry Rivers and Charles Rivers.
Malachi died in 1884 so that voided his life estate. Sarah Ann Boatright Rivers died 9 June 1902; since Malachi was deceased the land should have transferred to the 5 youngest children. All five survived living into the 1920’s and 1930’s.
Three children, not mentioned, were deceased prior to February 1883.
