Repayment of Mortgage in US Gold Coins

In the late 1880’s Collins Brock and his wife Jennie came upon some hard times resulting in the borrowing of Cash from a company known as The British and American Mortgage Co., Limited. By the time they worked through this crisis they were in debt to The British and American Mortgage Co., Limited for $450.00. The details of this mortgage can be found in Hinds County Land Deed Book 58, starting on page 595.  As stated, the 200 acres was mortgage for $450.00 at 10% interest  repayable in U.S. GOLD Coins.

There were 5 promissory notes involved:

One note $45.00 payable on 1 November 1889;

One note $45.00 payable on 1 November 1890;

One note $45.00 payable on 1 November 1891;

One note $45.00 payable on 1 November 1892;

One note $270.00 payable on 1 November 1893;

The document below is the release of this mortgage showing that Collins Brock and his wife Jennie payed it to full satisfaction.

Dear Sir.:

You are authorized to acknowledge payment of, and enter satisfaction of record for that Deed of Trust dated February, 15th A.D. 1889 from Collins Brock & wife Jennie Brock to Albert Shattuck Trustee for The British and American Mortgage Co., Limited, for the sum of Four hundred and Fifty and 00/100 ($450.00) Dollars, and recorded in Book 58, page 595, of the records, of Deeds in your office, on the twenty second day of February A. D. 1899 on lands in Hinds County, State of Mississippi, the same having been fully paid and satisfied.

Dated at New York, this 7th day of March, A.D. 1899.
