Amanuensis Monday~Land Sale between Henry Jackson & John Jackson

Amanuensis Monday is a genealogy blogging theme. It was started by John Newmark who writes the TransylvanianDutch blog. His definition of Amanuensis is:

Amanuensis: A person employed to write what another dictates or to copy what has been written by another.

Today’s subject is a Land Sale between Henry Jackson & John Jackson, 1825.

Land Deeds are a genealogical “gold mine” overlooked by many family historians. A case in point is the land deed above whereby all the children of John Jackson and Elizabeth Lacy are named. A bonus is the naming of the spouses of the daughters.

The children of John and Elizabeth (Lacy) Jackson are selling their interest in land they had inherited at the death of Griffith Lacy.  The Land Deed names John and all his children. Not mentioned is John’s wife Elizabeth Lacy who had passed away in 1824. Griffith Lacy was the brother of Elizabeth (Lacy) Jackson.

The Children of John Jackson and Elizabeth Lacy are:

  1. Henry JACKSON
  2. Sarah JACKSON who married Wilson WEATHERS
  3. Keziah JACKSON who married Benjamin W. THOMPSON
  4. Thomas JACKSON, b. 1 June 1804   d. 12 Sept. 1822
  5. Jane JACKSON who married an unknown GRAHAM
  6. Lucretia “Creasy JACKSON
On your next trip to the Courthouse; stop by the Register of Deeds and spend some time in the Land Deeds of your ancestors. You will not be disappointed.
