Treasure Chest Thursday~Petition For Relief

In Re the minors, Rachel Rivers}        Petition
and Columbia L. Rivers}.
 
To Milton McLaurin Judge of Probate for Marlboro County in the State aforesaid:
The petition of Atlanta J. Weatherly as Guardian for Rachel Rivers and Columbus L. Rivers, respectfully shows to this Court:
I.    That the petitioner is the duly qualified guardian of the above mentioned. minors.
II.    That there is now in the hands of said petitioner the sum of Two hundred Eleven & 65/100 Dollars belonging to Rachel  Rivers and Columbus L. Rivers respectively. As shown by last returns filed.
III.    That during the last four years your petitioner has been forced to spend more or less money on the said minors for the proper food, clothing, physicians accounts etc., and that she finds it necessary now to carry one of the minors to the hospital for treatment.
WHEREFORE, Your petitioner prays that an order be passed by this Court permitting and directing your petitioner as guardian of Rachel Rivers and Columbus L. Rivers to use the sum Two hundred Eleven & 65/100 Dollars, to pay the above expenses, and she will ever pray.
Dated at Bennettsville, S.C. this the

and Columbus L. Rivers.}                    Expenses of Minors.
 
Upon hearing and filing the petition of Atlanta J. Weatherly as Guardian of Rachel Rivers and. Columbia L. Rivers, and upon motion of A.L. Hamer Esq., her attorney.


It IS ORDERED, That the prayer of the petitioner be, and it is hereby in all respects, granted, and that Atlanta J. Weatherly as Guardian of Rachel Rivers and Columbus L. Rivers shall use and pay out the sum of Two Hundred, Eleven & 65/100 Dollars  food, clothing, hospital and. other necessary expenses, to reimburse the said guardian for her personal money advanced for the said minors during the time from April 8th, 1913 to date. That the said sum of $        shall be paid out of the moneys that the petitioner Mrs. Atlanta. J. Weatherly now has on hand belonging to the said minors Rachel Rivers and Columbia L. Rivers, and that the same be properly charged off of the account of the said minors respectively.

Atlanta J. “Addie” Smith, daughter of William Angus Smith and his wife Julie (Last name unknown) married Columbus Lafayette Rivers, Sr. on 26 December 1902 in Bennettsville, South Carolina. They had two children before he was killed by his brother-in-law on 18 February 1911. His son having just arrived on 8 January 1911 or about  40 days earlier.
With two small children Addie Smith Rivers married Alton John Weatherly about 1914.  Three daughters were borne to this union. 

Rachel and Columbus L. Rivers are my 2nd Cousins 3 times removed.
