It’s Family Time~The Henry Perkins Davis Family

Henry Perkins Davis, born 19 May 1858 was the son of John Calvin Davis and Charlotte Jones. He was the eleventh of twelve children born to John Calvin and Charlotte Davis.

On 24 May 1899, Henry Perkins Davis, age 41 married Martha Ellen Jones, daughter of Calvin Jones. This was to be his 2nd Marriage and he brought into the marriage two minor children. Children of his deceased wife Eugenia Cordelia Davis, daughter of David Richard Davis and Mary Cornelia McNair.

His children with Eugenia Cordelia Davis were:

i. Viola Davis was born in Aug 1890 in Florence County, South Carolina.
ii. Ernest E. Davis was born in Apr 1892 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.

Henry Perkins and Martha Ellen Jones would raise a family of five additional children:

i. Thelma Jones Davis, born 14 May 1900, Florence County, South Carolina; married Robert Wilson Rose Jr., 12 Jun 1921, Florence, Florence, South Carolina; died 15 Mar 1974.

Henry Perkins Davis died 26 September 1909 leaving his widow with an unborn child. Martha Ellen Jones never remarried. Evidently, she raised the 7 children alone and most certainly with the help of her family. She died 13 October 1965. Henry Perkins Davis is buried in the Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery and his 2nd wife Martha Ellen Jones Davis is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery. Both cemeteries are in Florence County, South Carolina.

Henry Perkins Davis is my 1st Cousin 4 times removed.
