Its Family Time~The James Francis Davis, Sr. Family

James Francis Davis Sr. was born in 1743 in Cheraw District, South Carolina. He moved with his brother John to Anson County and the two of them settled in what became Mecklenburg County when it was cut away from Anson and created on 6 November 1762. James’ presence in Mecklenburg county is shown by a deed dated 21 Jan. 1764, James Davis to James Kerr, for 480 acres of land, on both sides of Sugar Creek. (DB 1, page 622-623)

James Francis Davis was twice married and the maiden names of these two wives still remains a mystery. He first married Margaret [LNU] before 3 Oct 1765. We know because Margaret is named as a wife in an Oct 1765 Land Deed between James Davis, Planter, and Margaret, his wife, Mecklenburg Co., to James Johnson. The land consists of 300 acres lying on both sides of Sugar Creek. (DB 4, page 333).

Margaret, the wife of James, passed away sometime before 1779.
