Time and time again I have written about the use of Land Deeds in your genealogical research. Land deeds are often over-looked or passed aside when they may be the very key to your genealogical “brick-wall”.
For instance in Anson County Land Deed O-148 we have two Land Deeds both saying that John Jackson is the Son of Stephen Jackson and Ann Kendrick.
In the first deed on page 148, Stephen Jackson and Ann Kendrick are conveying a negro boy named Simon to their Son John Jackson for the love, good will and affection they bear toward their Son.
In the 2nd deed, Stephen Jackson is conveying a tract of land consisting of 250 acres to his Son John Jackson for the love, good will and affection they bear toward his Son.
On 8 August 2019 in this blog post I wrote about a Chesterfield County, SC Land deed that listed the heir-at-law of William P. Jackson.

In this posting we used a land deed to proved the correct named of the Wife of Lewis Boatwright, Jr.

The next time you are in your local register of Deeds office ask one of the clerks to show you the “Grantor” (Seller) and “Grantee (Buyer) Indexes. Or better yet check and see if they are on-line and available at your desktop.
