It’s Family Time~Who are the Parents of Sarah Hill Deese

My 2nd Great Grandparents are Samuel Deese and his wife Sarah Hill. This is proven with a paper trail and DNA testing. The marriage license of my Great Grandfather John Calvin Deese, clearly shows that Samuel and Sarah Hill Deese are his parents.

In addition, the 1850n census shows John Calvin's older brothers and sisters in the household of Samuel and Sarah Deese. John Calvin is not yet born. The Deese line is solidly documented for another 3 generations.

What's uncertain is the Hill line – Who are the parents of Sarah Hill wife of Samuel Deese.
The first documented child of Samuel and Sarah is a daughter Martha Deese, b. March 1831 in Anson County. This would suggest that Samuel and Sarah Hill were married about 1830.

Again the 1830 Census clearly shows that Samuel Dees was married in 1830 and had a young bride age 15-19.

Free White Persons - Females - 15 thru 19: 1 [wife- Sarah "Sally" Hill Deese, b. 1811-1815]

Based on 1830 thru the 1880 census in which Sarah (Hill) Deese appeared we can say that Sarah was born about 1815.

Samuel and Sarah had 9 known children; 4 daughters and 5 sons.
In 1820 Anson County census there we 3 HILL - Heads of Household listed:
  • Huldy Hill - Bennet, Anson, North Carolina - 6
  • Jonathan J Hill - Bennet, Anson, North Carolina - 3
  • John Hill - Bennet, Anson, North Carolina – 6
Huldah Hill
Huldy Hill is Huldah Jackson wife of John Hill, deceased. In her household is a female between the ages of 16-25. If this is Sarah Hill she has certainly dropped a few years off her age in subsequent Censuses.
