Mary Jane Daughter of Cameron Adams
Mary Jane Adams, born 8 June 1842 is the daughter of Cameron Adams and his wife Jane Copeland. She was sixth born of eleven children born to Cameron and Jane.
Her tombstone shows her death as 28 Feb. 1927 but her NC Death certificate has her date of death as 30 Jan 1927.
Many online trees show Mary Jane married to Peter Groomes. She DID NOT marry Peter Groomes.
She was married only once, that I have found, and she married late in life at age 38. She married about 1880 William Ricketts and to this union was born 3 children of which only one survived; a son, Joseph Quincy Adams ( 1882-1951)
In 1850 – Cameron and Jane are in Chesterfield, SC

On 30 January 1927 Mary Jane Adams Ricketts died of kidney failure and is buried the following day at New Hope Church, Anson County, NC. Her burial conflicts with a Cemetery Survey showing her burial to be in the Ricketts cemetery. Her death certificate says she was born 3 Jan 1842 and was buried 31 January 1927 at New Hope Church Cemetery in Wadesboro, NC. I suspect the tombstone located in the Rickets cemetery is a later edition and is not from the time of her death in January 1927.
Peter Groomes may have married a Mary Jane Adams but she WAS NOT the DAUGHTER of Cameron Adams and Jane Copeland. She may well be the daughter of Thomas Cameron Adams and Elizabeth Gainey.
